How did the zombies even end up
infiltrating the camp? I thought Aieglez had done a great job setting up the
perimeter. These were the thoughts running through Ezmeralda’s head. She knew
she was going to die, there was no way she would be able to get out of this one
alive. The zombies had her surrounded and Ptcharko, Ivan, and Aieglez had left
the camp a little earlier in order to scout the area. She had decided to stay
behind and organize the supplies and explore the area. Was it a smart idea, not
really? But she was a little sick of the group. There is only so much time you
can spend together before every behavior becomes annoying.
So there
she was in the woods, just minding her own business. Spring had finally arrived
and even in the midst of a zombie apocalypse she was able to find joy in the
flowers. She couldn’t really help it though, the winter had been brutal. Every
time they thought it was over it just came back again with more snow. It’s not
that she didn’t like the snow, she loved it, but it made life so much more
difficult. It is so much easier to run zombies when you aren’t slowed down by
the snow. Also camouflage is much easier when everything around you isn’t
covered in a layer of white.
Ezmeralda
was gathering red carnations in the forest when she heard a rustling. At first
she paid no attention to it because she thought it was Ptcharko playing his
usual zombie prank. However with the next rustling a sense of foreboding fell
over Ezmeralda. She realized that the gang shouldn’t be back for another hour
at least, meaning that the rustling couldn’t be Ptcharko. With this
realization, Ezmeralda took a few deep breaths, panicking would only cause her
to lose her aim. She gently dropped the basket of flowers and picked up her
weaponry.
She picked
up her crossbow and made sure her dagger was properly strapped. In order to
gain advantage over the enemy she quickly shimmied up the tree and then sat in
anticipation. She looked around to see what had caused the rustling noise and
what she saw, shocked her. It wasn’t just one or two zombies but it was an
entire horde. There were 20 or so zombies walking in her direction. She had two
choices now, stay up in the tree and be “safe” since zombies can’t climb trees
or run to the campground, pick up as many supplies as she can and find the rest
of the gang. She weighed out the pros and cons of both options and decided that
going to find the rest of the gang would be the better of the two options.
She jumped
out of the tree and ran for her life. Even though the zombies were at a
distance, she would have at tops 20 minutes to pick up a decent amount of
supplies. She ran a checklist through her head. She’d need to grab Ivan’s
hammer, Aieglez’s rope, and Ptcharko’s battle axe. She’ll grab the extra
quiver, the machete, and any other weaponry she could grab. She’ll grab a few provisions
but not much because Ivan would be able to hunt for more food with ease. Her
plans were quickly cut short when she reached the campgrounds.
Unfortunately
for her the zombie horde she originally spotted was not the only group of
zombies. There were two more hordes heading in her direction. If she didn’t run
now she would be surrounded in a matter of minutes. The clock was ticking, she
saw her quiver and it was only a few steps to the side. If she grabbed it, it
would only cost her a few seconds.
There she
was a few minutes late, internally cursing herself. There she was, panting
behind the building. Silently praying that no one had spotted her when she was
running away. Zombie Squadron R, where are you? She couldn’t believe how stupid
she was, she should have just gone with the squadron, sure she would be annoyed
but at least she would have been alive….
